Master woodworker Sam DiMaggio has been building and crafting in wood most of his life.

Starting in the 1970’s Sam built a classical guitar and through the 80’s and 90’s he turned to custom furniture.  Currently, his most recent endeavors are focused on segmented bowls and creations.  He has an intuitive flair for the essence of woods: their textures, colors, and nature.  Sam has won numerous awards for his bowls, most notably a 2020 Gold Medal from the Betsy Leuke Arts Center in Burbank California, and Best In Show awarded him from the prestigious Brand Library Arts Council.  He resides in Studio City, CA.

Artist Statement:

Through segmented woodturning, I explore the intersection of geometry and Nature. Each bowl is built from precisely cut pieces, assembled into patterns and shapes that celebrate both structure and spontaneity. I try to honor the warmth and story of wood while transforming it into forms that are both functional and contemplative — crafted to endure, invite touch and reveal complexity over time.
